How To Win The Fight For Joy’ by Pastor Paul Adefarasin

“How to win the fight for joy” is a message by Senior Pastor of House on The Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin in his “Something is about to happen” series.

Joy is Spontaneous

The fight for joy is not a fight for joy in general but it is a fight for joy in God. It is a pursuit of happiness in God and in God alone, and that’s what makes the things that he gives us truly enjoyable without them becoming objects of idolatry. So, when we fight for joy, our fight for joy is not joy in general, it’s joy in him. We must fight for joy in God even though joy is both spontaneous and a gift. That means, regardless of what you are going through in your life and the negative impact that may have on your emotions.

We are Justified by Christ

We do not fight for joy in order to be justified before God but instead, we fight as persons justified by Christ already in the finished work. So we’re fighting the sin of failing to enjoy God even though that sin of failing to enjoy God has already been punished on the cross of Calvary and we already have the victory accredited to us by the appropriations of the finished work.

Focused on God’s Glory

The fight for joy is mainly a fight to see the glory of God. Everything God does, he does for himself because he understands that we are most supremely satisfied when we are focused on his glory. If God withheld his glory, he will be robbing us of our joy and our delight in him. And it will be impossible to find joy anywhere else.

Meditation in the Word

When we see the glory, how do we fight for joy in God so we keep seeing the glory so as to continuously have joy in God? The first is to meditate on the Word of God and night. You must have a means of taking hold of Scripture, understanding it and meditating in it till you get revelation and you begin to see God in the light that the Scriptures display. Feasting on the Word of God early in the morning is much better than breakfast, it will make you strong, happy and mightier. It will open up light to your paths and lamp to your feet. Many Christians are working in darkness because they don’t see their way, they don’t see it because they don’t see who God is.

We live out of God’s Mouth

In Psalm 1 verse 2 to 3, the blessed man’s delight and joy are in the word. Which is also the law of God and of faith. And he meditates in that word, day and night. A Christian cannot win the fight for joy if she doesn’t understand meditation and its constancy. We are called to live out of God’s mouth. We must have ongoing continuity in conversation with God. When you are not joyful, your mind doesn’t work. The suggestions of the enemy throw you into panic and you go into mistakes. But when you have joy, your hope is intact and because it’s attacked there’s a wholeness about you that allows you to see things from a point of victory and make decisions and choices from a victorious platform.
