(Learn To Celebrate The Successes Of Others)
TO THE BIBLE: Philippians 2:3-4 GNB
“Don’t do anything from selfish ambition or from a cheap desire to boast, but be humble toward one another, always considering others better than yourselves. And look out for one another’s interests, not just for your own.”
Flora never seemed to see the positive side of people around her, and she refused to learn from them due to her self-centredness. The news of anyone’s success at any endeavour would not only upset her, but also trigger some bitterness in her. She always thought that the success of another meant she was failing; therefore, she chose to never rejoice or celebrate with anyone.
People who have this attitude don’t realise that they’re in unhealthy competition with others. Don’t be like them. Instead, be filled with love all the time, for God is love! Don’t join those who compare themselves with others; know that you’re unique and special in God’s eyes. Be at peace with everyone and celebrate the victories and success of others.
Understand that success in life is relative, and there are different phases and levels of success. Your success can only be measured according to the vision and target that God has given you. If you’re about your God-given endeavour, then He alone can judge how successful you are. Between you and God, you can decide whether or not you’re successful, because it’s based on what you’re told to do. What He told you to do may not be what He told someone else; so there’s no need to compare yourself with others, or rate yourself on the basis of their success or failure. Therefore, in all you do, let your motives be right and be void of selfishness. When you hear of other people’s successes, never allow the self-pitying or “why-not-me” attitude. Rejoice. Refuse to compare yourself with anyone. Remember, you’re unique before the Lord!
Dear Lord, I thank you for your love, which is shed abroad in my heart by the Holy Spirit. I extend this undiluted love to everyone around me, expressing true joy and happiness for their successes. Self-centeredness has no place in me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
