RECOGNISE GOD’S VOICE
(Train Yourself To Respond When God Speaks)
TO THE BIBLE: 1 Samuel 3:9-10 CEV
“So he said, “Go back and lie down! If someone speaks to you again, answer, ‘I’m listening, LORD. What do you want me to do?’” Once again Samuel went back and lay down. The LORD then stood beside Samuel and called out as he had done before, “Samuel! Samuel!” “I’m listening,” Samuel answered. “What do you want me to do?””
Our opening scripture tells us about the boy, Samuel, who, on three different occasions, was called by God, but he ran to Eli the priest, and said, “You called me, Sir.” And Eli said, “I didn’t call you.” Now, understand that this young man was no fool; if the voice he heard didn’t sound like Eli’s, Samuel wouldn’t have gone to him three times consecutively. God’s voice sometimes would sound to people like a familiar voice. This still happens with many of God’s children today.
You’d have to be trained by God’s Spirit to recognise that voice when it comes to you. This is where fellowshipping with the Spirit through the Word of God, and speaking in other tongues play key roles. The more you fellowship with Holy Spirit, the more of His voice you’ll become familiar with. The more you speak in tongues, the more your spirit is conditioned and tuned to hear God. I often feel sorry for those who think that praying or speaking in tongues is not for today or is unnecessary; no; it’s for every Christian today. Those who don’t speak in tongues find it difficult to know when the Lord is talking to them; they don’t recognise His voice.
However, the more you train and exercise your spirit through speaking in tongues, the clearer and louder the voice of the Lord will be in your heart, and the quicker and more accurately you’ll respond to Him.
Dear Lord, my spirit is familiar to your voice, and it guides and directs me daily. I’m conditioned rightly to know your perfect will, and my steps are ordered of you, because your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
